88 Temples, One Mission: Reclaiming Life Through Spiritual Pilgrimage ⛩️

Japan’s proudest forte is its ability to captivate the world with one-of-a-kind cultural artifacts, whether through anime, manga, temples, or sushi. Yet, the grass is always greener on the other side. The infamous Japanese work culture left no space for many to breathe, slowly yet saddeningly turning more than a million, particularly the youths, to retreat to “the other side”—their home. This phenomenon is called “hikikomori,” individuals choosing to seclude themselves from society, due to stress or societal pressure.

New Start, a Chiba-based nonprofit organization, draws a “new start” for hikikomori, deploying walking projects from 2003 to lead their way back to society. The organization conceptualized the project through pilgrimages– a 1,200km (~746 miles) excursion into spirituality on the island of Shikoku. 88 historic pagodas await the participants, marking a mentally and physically strenuous 2-month journey. By doing so, one can find a sense of purpose and beauty in life, nature, and society.

Detailed information and recounts of hikikomori’s inspiring return to their social life can be read here

Future Fermented: Can Kimchi Survive the Climate Challenge? 🥬

The harshest challenger to Kimchi’s existence is none other than Mr. Climate Change. Even with various versions, cabbage-based kimchi, the tangy spicy fermented cabbage leaves that we all love, is still the figurehead in the Kimchi world—yet it now stands fragile before the test of climate.

Napa cabbages can only flourish under cool temperatures, but current global warming poses a threat to their growth. This can possibly make cabbages unfavorable for cultivation, clearly alarmed by the significant decline in cabbage crops within the last 20 years, from 8,796 ha to only 3,995 ha. Along with unpredictable rainfall and fungal infection, many researchers also predict the farmed area to decrease dramatically in the next 25 years, with no cabbages grown in highlands by 2090.

Government efforts include using climate-controlled storage and developing new cabbage varieties that can withstand climate change. Despite the looming obstacles, human creativity and the history-long resilience of kimchi will for sure keep this special dish alive.

Is Your Website in Sync With Your Brand?

Let's do a quick check to see if it's making any of these three common mistakes:

🎨 Visual Identity Mismatch: Does your brand lack a consistent look across websites, social media, and printed materials? It might be time to unify your logo, color palette, and typography for a more cohesive brand image.

📩 Unclear Message: Your brand message should be more than an "About Us" blurb. Weave your core message into every corner of your website, from articles to product descriptions, for a seamless brand experience.

🗣 Outdated Tone of Voice: If you've recently refined your brand's tone of voice but your website doesn't reflect this change, there's a disconnect. Ensure your online presence aligns with your updated brand personality.

Don't let brand inconsistencies hinder your growth. AHN Group offers a comprehensive website development service to strengthen your brand identity and boost brand recognition.
