Ancient Chinese Astrology Gets a Gen Z Rebrand Among Southeast Asia’s Young Professionals

Ancient Chinese astrology is seeing a revival among Gen Z in Southeast Asia, where traditional systems like bazi are being reframed as modern decision-making tools. Rather than viewing it as fate, many young professionals are treating elemental forecasts as a strategic guide for career and life planning.
Yik Wai Chee, a 33-year-old executive at a Malaysia-based AI company, says he does not consider himself a believer but uses bazi as a “luck check” to navigate challenges. For him, adapting suggested strategies comes at little cost, making the centuries-old practice a practical complement to data-driven thinking.

Taiwan Heir Andre Koo Jr. Steps Beyond a $6.3B Dynasty to Build the Future of AI in New York City

Andre Koo Jr. grew up surrounded by legacy. As a fifth-generation heir to a $6.3 billion Taiwanese business empire, he could have easily stayed within the safety of a family dynasty built over more than a century. Instead, he chose to step away from that comfort and move to New York City, placing his bet on the fast-moving world of artificial intelligence.
In Taiwan, the Koo family name is tied to major institutions in finance and infrastructure. That kind of upbringing comes with both privilege and pressure, and Andre understood that honoring his family’s history did not mean standing still. While still active in the Koo Family Office, he relocated to Manhattan to test himself in one of the most competitive business environments in the world.
There, he launched K8 Capital, focused on AI and enterprise software. Rather than follow the usual venture capital playbook, he built a hybrid model that blends private credit with startup investing, balancing innovation with caution. With strong early returns and growing investor backing, he is carving out his own path while carrying a 130-year legacy into the next era of technology.
