ICE raid empties historic New York Chinatown corridor

New York’s historic Canal Street — once a bustling hub of street vendors and a staple of Chinatown’s character — has fallen eerily quiet following an ICE raid that detained nine street vendors earlier this week.

The raid, described by the Department of Homeland Security as “targeted” and “intelligence-driven,” allegedly focused on counterfeit goods. Those detained were from countries including Senegal, Mauritania, Guinea, and Mali.

The incident has sparked renewed fear among immigrant communities.

Leanne Wong extends U.S. gymnastics all-around medal streak

Leanne Wong earned silver at the 2025 FIG Artistic World Championships, narrowly missing gold by just 0.10 points to Russia’s Angelina Melnikova. The result extends Team USA’s 22-year streak of winning an all-around medal at every world and Olympic competition since 2003.

Despite trailing early, Wong’s strong vault routine briefly put her in first place before Melnikova’s final floor performance secured the win after a minor deduction review.

“Southern Fried Rice” faces backlash from AAPI audiences

The series, about a Korean American student raised by Black parents at an HBCU, was criticized for using racial slurs, sexualizing its Asian lead, and lacking AAPI or adoptee voices in its creative team.

Critics argue the show turned a rare chance for nuanced representation into harmful caricature, failing to build genuine solidarity between Black and Asian American communities.

Start soft-launching your holiday content

Don’t wait until November to suddenly switch into holiday mode. The smartest brands begin warming up the atmosphere early.

Soft-launching your holiday content can look like:

  • Visual transition: Gradually shift your color palette to warmer tones, softer lighting, or cozy textures that hint at the holidays without spelling it out.

  • Tone shift: Move your messaging to “gratitude.” Talk about reflection, appreciation, and connection — the emotional themes that lead perfectly into holiday campaigns.

  • Micro content drops: Post behind-the-scenes shots of your team prepping for year-end, tease upcoming launches, or share early-bird tips before the flood of promotions hits.

  • Community engagement: Ask your audience what they’re looking forward to this season. Make it conversational instead of commercial.

Soft-launching builds familiarity and emotional readiness. By the time your main campaign goes live, your audience is already in the mood, and your message lands with less noise and more impact.
