The Christmas Reset: 3 Asian Practices to Help You Find Stillness
Asian practices are everyday ideas rooted in Asian cultures that help us slow down, stay present, and show up for one another in a more thoughtful way. They offer a gentle shift in how we notice and experience small moments, especially during the holiday season.
That feeling is familiar during Christmas. One moment you’re planning, and before you know it, the day has already slipped by. In the middle of it all, these three Asian practices help you pause, reconnect, and remember the deeper meaning of gathering.
Notice Yuanfen (缘分), the reason you crossed paths
Yuanfen is about a destined connection. The people around your table are not there by chance. Taking a moment to appreciate that shared history and timing can turn an ordinary gathering into something meaningful.Leave room with Liú Bái (留白)
In Chinese art, space is just as important as what fills it. The same goes for your day. Not every moment needs a plan. Let conversations stretch. Let silence exist. Some of the best memories come from unplanned moments.Grow Jeong (情) through shared effort
Jeong is the kind of bond built by doing things together. Cooking, setting the table, or washing dishes side by side creates a quiet closeness that no wrapped gift can replace.
By embracing these gentle practices, you can help your Christmas feel grounded rather than overwhelming. Carry this energy into the final days of the year, and you may find yourself entering January feeling a little lighter and more connected.
