Chef Tue Nguyen Brings to Light Her Journey in Her Newest Cookbook ‘Ði Ăn’

You may know Twaydabae as the culinary sensation sweeping through social media with her unique dishes and infectious energy. But behind the digital persona is Tue Nguyen, a trailblazer whose journey from a young immigrant from Vietnam to a celebrated chef and restaurateur in Los Angeles, and her story of resilience, innovation, and culinary excellence.

Now, with millions following her every move on social media and her own Vietnamese restaurant, Đi Đi, Tue just launched her first cookbook, Ði Ăn, to a global audience on September 17th. In this exclusive conversation with Asian Hustle Network, Chef Tue reveals the inspiration behind her cookbook, a vibrant celebration of her life’s challenges and achievements.

The Treasure Beyond Gold: The Magical Spread of 'One Piece' 🏴‍☠️

Anime is long known as the hallmark of moral complexity, where one’s evil deeds can sometimes be justified or neutralized towards the end. “One Piece” is no exception. On the readings of one of the most successful anime, “One Piece” tells the tumultuous stories of piracy… but also, adventures, ambitions, and camaraderie.

After 1,000 episodes and 25 years of airing, this anime series has captivated fans worldwide. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga, the story revolves around a clay person named Monkey D. Luffy and his crew members on a treasure hunt. Initially, “One Piece” retained only a niche community in the US, but with the spread of COVID-19 and a growing sense of adventure against lockdown, it gained global recognition. 

In “One Piece,” the movie shines with the non-episodic plot line but pairs it with strong character development, and rich artistic production into one of the most impactful anime, both fantastical and genuine.

Moo Deng the Baby Hippo: Thailand’s Internet Sensation 🦛

Hippos are like durians! You either can't stand them (well- they are considered one of the most aggressive animals), or you think they’re the greatest gift of the Earth!

However, the Internet recently has gone crazy over a Thai baby hippo called “Moo Deng” (“bouncing pig”). Viral videos of clumsy Moo Deng on her hilarious journey such as biting the zookeeper despite having no teeth have taken social media by storm, captivated by her adorable charm. 

This newfound popularity has attracted more visitors to Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand, which witnessed a significant increase from 800 to 3,000-4,000 guests per day. Strict measures were enforced, however, to keep her safe from tourists’ indecent behaviors, like throwing food or water onto Moo Deng.

Preserving the Traditional Art of Mooncake-Making in Hong Kong 🥮

The Mid-Autumn festival has passed with many fun memories and vibrant traditions. In Hong Kong, a few bakers still hold onto the traditional process of mooncake-making in the growing era of mass production and evolving demands. 

KC Koo of Fancook is one of those who make delicious mooncakes based on the traditions that used to take many families a year of saving. The procedure involves soaking and boiling lotus seeds overnight, mashing them into a smooth filling, then wrapping salted egg yolk in a delicate pastry shell before baking. 

Every year, Koo adjusts the recipe according to weather and material quality to create freshly baked, nostalgic flavors for the audience. Despite the challenges in high-quality ingredient outsourcing, these traditional bakers still make endeavors to preserve this beautiful culinary art. 

While more flavors are added, like durian or ice cream, traditional mooncakes still bring up the essence of mid-autumn gatherings, a historic taste that is getting rarer.
