đŸŽžïž Minari (2020)

Language: English, Korean
Genre: Tragicomedy

Being Asian in California doesn’t guarantee immunity from racial discrimination—let alone in a desolate Southern town like those in Arkansas. The struggle is often multiplied: balancing a predominantly white culture while trying to preserve your own heritage.

In Minari, the Korean herb becomes a powerful symbol. It grows strong in unfamiliar soil—just like the family. Through hardship and storms, they remain rooted in love, resilient in every sense of the word.

📕 Night Sky with Exit Wounds (2016)

Author: Ocean Vuong

Night Sky with Exit Wounds is the kind of poetry book that makes you want to sob quietly and leave the party with an Irish goodbye. Ocean Vuong writes in confessions and regrets—his words are scars: tender, painful, unforgettable.

War, love, family, loss, queerness
It’s an all-in-one weekend tearjerker, and it hits deep.

Over 100 Immigrants Detained in Los Angeles as Families Face Sudden Separation

Many immigrants in Los Angeles are now being detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), even with no prior records and registered as legal residents in the U.S. for years. Families and many human rights organizations reported that many were arrested without any legal representation and transferred to detention centers far from home. The Trump administration has set a goal of 3,000 arrests per day. While officials claim the raids target financial crimes, many arrested are ordinary immigrant workers simply trying to live and work in the U.S.

As a community rooted in uplifting Asian and marginalized voices, Asian Hustle Network refuses to stay silent. Through the AHN Foundation, we are launching a fund to raise $100,000 to provide legal aid, emergency relief, and essential support for those affected. Show your support and donate here. Every dollar goes directly to families in crisis.

Turning Timber into Treasure: Carving Fallen Trees into Works of Art

Lam Che, a Hong Kong carpenter and artist, transforms salvaged wood and fallen trees into beautiful, sustainable furniture and installations. Starting as an apprentice at 14, he spent decades mastering his craft and now shares his skills through small-group workshops.

His creations—from shark sculptures to children’s reading nooks—blend artistry with environmental awareness. Despite the hard work, Lam finds joy and purpose in every project: “If I can keep doing this until I’m 80 or 90, I will.”

WEEKLY SNAPSHOTS 🧠

MYSTERY SOLVED 🔍

✅ True — Many Black Americans took up martial arts not just for self-defense, but as a way to reclaim dignity and power in a racist society.

✅ True — Bruce Lee’s fighting style in jeet kune do was influenced by both Chinese philosophy and the rhythm and swagger of Black American culture.

❌ Lie — Asian martial arts were first invented in the American South during the civil rights movement. Nope — they were imported from Asia and took on new meaning in the U.S. context.
